Hume Brophy has today announced senior appointments to its U.K. Corporate and Public Affairs team. Former Minister under David Cameron and Theresa May, James Wharton has been appointed executive Chairman, Corporate and Public Affairs. The appointment is alongside the promotion of Edel Bach to Director, Corporate Affairs and Charlotte Lang to Director, Public Affairs.
James joined the firm in 2017 as a senior adviser. He served in Theresa May’s Government as Minister for International Development, and under David Cameron as the first Minister for the Northern Powerhouse.
James will become Chairman on 1st April. His primary responsibilities will include developing client communication strategies and providing board-level political insight and analysis.
Chief Executive of Hume Brophy Conall McDevitt said: “James’s appointment comes at a very exciting moment for the team in Corporate and Public Affairs. The practice has established itself as one of the key players in London public affairs, and recently incorporated the firm’s corporate affairs offering to allow seamless client campaigns. James’s political experience and business acumen will bolster the team as it takes on an increasing number of competitive briefs with companies we are proud to advise. I have been consistently impressed by the client feedback and results James has delivered, and this appointment reflects the depth of Hume Brophy’s consultancy.”
James Wharton said: “I have watched Hume Brophy grow exponentially and appoint some of the best consultants in the business the past few years. It is because of the respect I have gained over that time for the company and its clients that I am delighted to take on these enhanced responsibilities and integrate further into the team. Together, we are proud to deliver the best intelligence-led and politically sensitive campaigns in the corporate world, and I intend to ensure that is only the beginning.”
Hume Brophy’s London corporate and public affairs clients include Dell EMC, Airlines for America and the Alternative Investment Management Association. It has offices across America, Europe and Asia, including in Dublin, Brussels, Hong Kong, New York and Singapore.
