Conall McDevitt has 20 years’ experience of corporate communications, Public relations, politics and public affairs in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Brussels. He served as the SDLP’s Director of Communications during the Good Friday Agreement talks in Northern Ireland, as a special adviser to the Minister for Agriculture and Rural development during the first power-sharing government and as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) and the SDLP’s leadership team in recent years.
He has also had a successful private sector career, as Senior Account Director for Fleishman-Hillard International Communications and Managing Director (Northern Ireland) of Weber Shandwick from 2006 to 2010. His sectoral experience in PR and Public Affairs consultancy includes Finance; Strategic Economic Planning, Innovation Policy, Energy, Agrifood, Bioscience, Tourism, Mining & Exploration and Spatial Planning as well as extensive work with various representative bodies. He is also considered an expert on issues and crisis management.
As an MLA in Northern Ireland, he led on Health, Education, Reconciliation and International Development and North – South policy (Liaison with the Department of An Taoiseach, Department of Foreign Affairs and the Irish cabinet) for the SDLP. He also served on the Northern Ireland Policing Board.
