George Lyon was an MEP from 2009 until 2014. Before that he was a member of the Scottish Parliament and President of the National Farmers Union in Scotland. As an MEP, George became a member of the agriculture and rural development committee overseeing the reform of the Common Agriculture Policy. He was the committee’s rapporteur on the issue, producing ‘On the future of the Common Agricultural Policy after 2013’ which set out the committee’s opinion on CAP’s strategy. In 2012 he became vice-chair of the budget committee.
